Women Owned
SCI is certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation’s largest third party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women in the US.

Being a Certified Woman Owned business adds credibility and diversification to our organization and sets us apart from our competitors,” states Belinda Carey, President of SCI. “However, this certification is a major factor driving innovation, growth, and opportunities for SCI and its’ customers, employees and community.”
WBENC’s national standard of certification is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.
By including women-owned businesses among their suppliers, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier diversity programs.
History
JOHN CREGO, FOUNDER
SCI means support, community, and involvement. Our business was founded in 1958 by John J. Crego of Streator. Originally known as Streator Industrial Supply, the company operated from a location in the downtown Vermillion Arcade. As the business expanded into markets beyond Streator, the name was changed and the office was moved into its current location on Broadway Street in the late 1960s.
More than half of the employees assumed ownership when John Crego died in 1994. SCI Corporation professes the team management approach to running the company and dedicates the use of all its resources: people, time, and capital. This history and evolution assure each employee's commitment to customer satisfaction and the consequent company success story.
